Bendis Board Flash Redesign

This week's redesign over at the Bendis Board was the Flash. I think it was grant Morrison who said that the Flash had a perfect costume and I really can't disagree. My late friend Mike Wieringo's version of the Flash is the one that comes to mind when the character is mentioned so my inclination is to draw the Flash thicker and more muscular than most people.

That being said, I kept coming up with little more than variations on the Flash/Kid Flash costumes so i jumped at the first one that didn't completely suck and quickly wrapped it up.

Threw a few textures and a little blur to polish my lame attempt up and violá!

Not sure who's next weeks victim. . . .

Hi Richard, I'm not one to criticize the pros, but this drawing looks pretty awkward. His left arm looks dislocated: It's too hyper-extended, and the elbow should be on the other side, IMHO. Also, the upper arms are angled away from the torso; when we run, they usually bend inwards.

No worries -- there's no way I'd let this drawing go if it were an assignment. The anatomical points you make are spot on and there are a pile you were far too kind to not mention -- the legs are completely messed up (upper legs different lengths, left foot too small, right knee dislocated, bad back and hip anatomy and the head's not connected properly).

I generally skip over all the things I do to check for correctness if I'm just goofing around.

That's not to say I don't make more than my share of mistakes when I'm working on assignments even with the flipping and measuring I do. . . .

Geez, I totally missed the anatomy problems. I only look at that stuff if it's glaringly bad... but this is not the case. I think this is a really fun costume update. I'm with you... the Flash is good as is, but this is still a fun re-do. I really like the gradient costume color. That's really different.
